The soldiers execute a series of highly calculated drill movements and precise handling of their hand-polished Garand rifles with fixed bayonets, tossing these deadly weapons in the air to each other.

The routine consists of a unique rifle inspection involving elaborate rifle spins and tosses. They also must meet the requirement of being between 5’11” and 6’1″ tall and be in the median of their weight requirements for their height, while males all only allowed. Uniformity is obviously the primary focus.

This ceremonial unit, established back in the early 30’s, is the Navy’s primary mission to represent the service in presidential, private, and public ceremonies in any way that helps show the world how skilled our nation’s gladiators truly are.

From inaugurations to arrival ceremonies for foreign officials, these men have trained for years and have put in countless hours in order to successfully perform under pressure.

The Silent Drill Platoon first performed in 1948, originally as a one-time show, but received such an overwhelming response that it soon became part of the naval academy routine.

The drill team competes against military units from all over the world. And their performance is simply eye-dropping!
